The Weather: Part II
It currently feels like -15 out there.
I know it's colder in other parts of the world right now, but that doesn't mean I have to accept it.

The Weather
I'm just about over waking up every day to find my front steps covered with a new layer of snow.
Plus, I think I lost one of my gloves.
Stupid winter.

The Cheating
I've been bad. I've probably gained 5 pounds, but I refuse to look, because I know I'll just get upset.
The problem is that after falling off the wagon with everyone else at Christmas, I've had a hard time getting back on. There was the New Year's Party. Then finals. Then I'm really busy with a bunch of shows. So who has time to eat right, when McDonalds is right there?
Truthfully, I've been much better about the McDonalds lately. But have you had their new chicken mcnuggets? They're great.
The amount of pizza and other assorted unecessary carbs that I have consumed these past few weeks is highly inappropriate. But there's not much I can do. No time of money to go to the store and get real food.
So I gain a little weight back. At least my thin jeans still fit.

The Semester
You'll be pleased to know that I just sent in my very last assignment of the semester. Here's a recap of the last week:
Marketing paper: basically took paragraphs from the brown couch brochure and half of my economics paper from earlier in the semester and cranked out 6 and 1/2 pages of marketing magic.
Marketing Final Exam: filled with multiple choice questions that none of us knew the answers to. Seriously, I don't think we ever talked about half that stuff. Which means that he'll curve the whole thing. I'm not too worried. A lot of the questions were common sense.
Accounting Final Exam: had no idea how to answer the first two questions, and if it was in Chapter 10, I didn't know it. But out of 100 points (and with the curve he always throws in there) we're looking at at least a B. Which should still give me an A for the semester.
Fundraising Final Project: a fundraising letter that's already on the brown couch website. So I guess that's not bad.
Fundraising Final Post: it was an online class with lots of forums that we had to post responses in. The final forum was about some random organization's fundraising evaluation, featuring the category "other" raising more money than any other category. To which I replied:
I also wish I knew more about that mysterious other category. It obviously worked for them. For all we know, "other" means "selling drugs and hookers on the side".
You never can tell. After all, we don't know their mission.
Which is pretty much how I've played the game all semester. I think it's a fitting end to the whole thing.
So I'm done now. Three weeks off and then back to the daily grind. Thanks for all the love and support and the reading of my papers over instant messager. One semester down...five more to go...

The Test
It's the middle of January, I'm working on two shows...and I have finals. Yee.
Finished my marketing analysis last night, and today I'm studying for the test. It's only 50 multiple choice, and we didn't ever really talk about what was on it...but it counts for almost half of my grade. Last night I had a dream that I got 33 out of 50 correct.
For you math people, that's easy, but in my dream, it was not so simple to just multiply by two and figure out that I had pretty much failed my test. For some reason I was using fractions and cross multiplying and carrying ones and I think the imaginary number "i" made a brief appearance.
But when it was all over, I realized that a 66% did not an A make. And I was not pleased.
Needless to say, the dream does not bode well on my studying. I just have to assume that I know marketing better than Dream Micky does.
Marketing tonight, accounting final on Thursday. Wish me luck...

The Signs
I often praise Chicago for its quick removal of snow from the streets. But this does not help me when I'm looking for a certain street and can't read any of the signs because they are all covered in snow.
How does this happen? how does the snow stick to something like this? Thse snow must be blowing awfully horizontal in order to collect as much as it does. Maybe the altitude is different up there.
Whatever it is, it's annoying.

The Port
So for Christmas I got a new printer, mp3 player and digital camera. (Yes, I'm spoiled, and yes, I'm self-aware.) All three of these items require a USB port to use with my computer. So does my modem. My computer has only 2 USB ports.
What you're saying now is, "Micky, just install a couple more USB ports. A PCI card is only like 20 bucks, and it's easy!"
Sure. Easy for you to say. You weren't up until 6am last night trying to just get your computer to start up without saying "windows protection error. You must restart your computer." Normally the use of all lowercase letters is soothing to me, but this merely indicated that my computer didn't even have the energy to capitalize.
Luckily LIJ's computer was just fine (although it was spouting Clay Aiken songs for the better part of the evening) and I was able to get online and learn all kinds of things after computers. I don't remember any of it, but I enabled and disabled a large number of gadgets somehow connected to my computer, even though I'd never heard of any of them.
Finally at around 4:30 am, I got the computer back up and running. But now it was a battle of will. I had to reinstall the printer and the internet, and get rid of the terrible new USB card that I'd installed. It was all over at 6am, where I briefly flirted with the idea of not sleeping at all, only to be shot down by my better judgement.
After I woke up (at noon, thank you), I went to Office Depot and returned the scourge of evil and spent another $30 on a fancy 4 port hub that can sit on my desk, and is much more convenient for plugging and unplugging things like mp3 players and cameras. (Ah well...that's what Christmas money is for, right?)
And now it all works.
Maybe I should go take a nap.

The Stain
Remember the New Years party in January 2003? It was a good time. So good that it lasted all year.
No, I'm not saying that 2003 was any sort of breakthrough year for me...I'm just saying that the mess of the party lasted until 2004.
But it's gone now. The pink "PARTY!" that had been emblazoned on my hardwood floors, as a testament to sparkly confetti used at the previous year's party has now been wiped away thanks to about 4 hours of bleaching action.
You have no idea what I'm saying, of course. The point is that it's a brand new year. A clean start. It may have taken some bleach...but the past is gone now.
Heh. Look who's growing up?
